Elevating and eloquent, they have provided comfort to hundreds of millions of people for centuries. In the 21st century, they have become endangered with being forgotten as many Western churches limit themselves to the top-40 CCM hits of the last five years (a narrow bracket which naturally changes every year). As lovely and relevant as today’s hits are, we would be remiss if we charged into this already challenging decade without our roots secured in the timeless wisdom of previous generations, and the songs that brought spiritual comfort to their hearts. Often inspired by the soul-searching of the Reformation and the Great Awakenings, or to soothe the trauma of the American Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, and the Great Depression, the songs included in this collection have conveyed the promises of the Holy Spirit to countless millions.
This collection of over seventy classic hymns was made for the solo violin and can be used for private worship or public performance and is intended to be both accessible to the burgeoning, intermediary violinist, and open to creative expression for the more advanced violinist (who is wholly encouraged to experiment with and elaborate on the simple arrangements that we have provided).
